Alan Smith, BSc Conservation Biology & Ecology.

After 10 years of experience in gardening, woodland and estate maintenance I founded A. Smith Countryside.

I am fully insured and qualified. I hold a 2:1 degree that has helped me to expand knowledge in subjects such as plant biology, ecological systems, silvicultural systems and practical and affective conservation managements. I have also gained further training in arboriculture and horticulture at Cannington College. Here I have developed skills in cultivation and propagation, plant identification, cross cutting, and felling with traditional tools and a chainsaw, tree climbing, tractor operating and brush cutting.

I have worked on projects such as planning, planting, thinning and processing, mixed woodlands and orchards for
organisations such as the National Trust and the Crown Estate.
I have also conducted ecological surveys, monitoring, guided plant walks and been a field demonstrator for the University of Exeter at their Cornwall campus.
